Have you ever thought, "Wow, this one is special, I must have it in hardcover" even before you could get through the first book in the series?
I recently finished reading the second book in a sensational series by
Karen Ann Hopkins called The Wings of War.
I just finished book 2, GAIA, and all I can say is it's really gorgeous....not just the cover, but the story is amazing!
And if you love angels as much as I do, than buckle up for a thrill ride full of romance, drama, and action packed saga that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

I love the author Karen's way of drawing you into her sizzling story-line before you know what's happening. It starts a bit slow, but inevitably seduces you into reading the entire thing in a short span of time.
Embers Wings of War Book 1 didn't grab me from the first paragraph, but by the end of the first chapter, I was left simmering in contemplation about Ember's Guardian Angel's (Eae's) portentous narrative he passed on to the priest to warn Ember of the impending Apocalypse and that she is not really human, but a creature from the line of Angels who mated with human women.
I also truly love how we get to hear both points of view from both characters--Ember AND Sawyer. It truly gives the story more depth and a wonderful insight into each of their flaws, weaknesses and strengths-- and understanding why they do the things they do.
You'll even fall in love with some of the side characters. They too have snuggled into my psyche.
So now, after speeding through both books...I simply must-have more! I really am going to have a hard time waiting for the next book.
Please, hurry with the next installment Temptation (Wings of War Book 3) Karen Ann Hopkins!!!

To pass the time I've put together a Spotify playlist for Embers

face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God

without warning to lead them astray from a spirit of understanding and

More about these books:
There are descendants of angels walking among us. Ember is one of them.
Embers is an epic paranormal adventure/romance about an eighteen
year old girl who discovers that she's immune to fire and any other
injury when she’s in a horrific car crash that kills her parents.
Following a violent episode with her aunt's boyfriend, Ember flees Ohio
to live with an old relative in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
Ember's exuberance at escaping a bad home life soon turns to trepidation
when she learns that she's a Watcher, a descendant of angels.
While Ember is instructed about her heritage and the powers that
go along with it, she strikes up friendships with two teenagers who live
inside of a frightening walled compound in the forest. Inexplicably
drawn to one of the young men in particular, an impossible romance
develops. But it’s cut short when Ember discovers that her new friends
are fighting on the opposite side of a war that's been raging between
two factions of Watchers for thousands of years. When the compound’s
inhabitants threaten the townspeople, Ember takes action, sealing her
fate in the ancient battle of good versus evil, and the grayness in
between.
Kirkus Reviews: “An impending apocalypse provides a compelling
backdrop for romance in this page-turning first installment of a new YA
series. Hopkins expertly weaves her plotlines together in this
compulsively readable teen romance story…Hopkins delivers many
successful elements of young-adult romance—appealing lead characters,
high-voltage chemistry, repressed sexuality—which will win her ardent
followers. A paranormal YA tale that’s highly recommended for fans of
the Twilight series; move over, Bella and Edward, there’s a new set of
kids on the block.”
GAIA (Wings of War Book 2)
Watchers and Angels are at war. Which side will Ember choose?
Humankind is on the precipice of the apocalypse.
As the Demons grow bolder and the walls between the planes of
existence weaken, Ember is forced to develop her powers as quickly as
possible, and she seeks out a powerful earth Watcher to continue her
supernatural lessons. Her glimpse of the future demands she fight the
dark forces spreading across the earth.
But her new mentor has his own agenda, making her question everyone and everything she ever trusted.
When Ember is thrust into the world of the Watchers, she learns
of their plans—ones that defy the scripture and make them enemies of the
Celestial Host. Ridding the world of evil gets complicated when it
becomes impossible to take sides.
As Ember struggles with morality, she soon discovers that there’s something more frightening than anything she’s faced before.

LOVE this review:
Gaia was an explosive read full of
action and suspense. This is the second book in the Wings of War series
and Mrs. Hopkins does NOT disappoint. Her writing style is pure joy
with just the right amount of detail that this plays out as a movie
would in your head. We are taken along on a wonderful escape I can
honestly say everything I’ve read written by Mrs. Hopkins is
awesome-sauce! Paranormal world watch out this is sure to become a
favorite in this genre. All of the feels were there from the very
beginning to the very intense end!
The Story, wow talk about
starting off with a bang! Ember is thrust into chaos right away. After
learning what is to come Ember decides to prepare as best and as fast as
she can. With her friends by her side the threat of the world ending
doesn’t seem so scary. Ember is forced to make several difficult
decisions but she has to follow her heart and it is telling her to stay
the course. Having just a bit of guidance Ember must follow her heart.
Through despair and loss she finds the strength within to do what is
just. We are taken once again on an epic adventure of sorts while on the
edge of our seats waiting to see what happens next. I’m not sure how
this can have a happy ending with so many opposing forces but if anyone
can do it it’s Mrs. Hopkins. I can’t WAIT to see how everything
continues in the next installment.
The Characters, as I mentioned
before Ember is a strong confident lead. She does not hesitate when it
comes to protecting her friends or her loved ones. He strength shows
with every move she makes and everything she represents. Sawyer loves
her and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. My heart breaks for
these two because I don’t see a way that they can be together. I will
say the focus of this installment was strengthening Ember’s faith in
herself. Although she learned at a great price I knew the power was
within her the whole time. There was a great tragedy that shocked me and
provided an enormous twist I just hope Ember finds a way through the
pain. Who knows what’s next but I certainly can’t wait to find out!! I
had my doubts about many of the new characters and I can’t wait to see
where we go from this point.
The End, ba da boom ba da bing!
BINGO BANGO!! Talk about CRAZY! Mrs. Hopkins does a marvelous job of not
only starting this read with thrilling excitement she uses that very
same element to bring it to a close! Is it a cliff hanger ending not per
say but it is very much…OH MY Word…Did that just happen? Wow so many
questions were answered and yes she has set up the next installment very
nicely. This is unlike any other read that has to do with angels, I
don’t know how it will end but my heart has high hopes. All of the YA
elements are covered and our very amazing lead character overcomes
obstacles and impresses left and right. I am highly anticipating the
next and what will happen when the show down of all show downs take
place!! Eeeeeeeeep!
